“Explore, Dream, Discover.” Greta De Vico, Data Visualisation Bootcamp Student at the Talent Garden Innovation School Dublin
It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey. But sometimes you feel like a racehorse, and you forget. When I was eighteen, I moved to Rome from a small mountain town in Abruzzo called Farindola to study Economics and Business at Luiss Guido Carli University. Before graduating from the Master’s degree with a major in Digital Management, I started work experience in Accenture; it was an incredible experience, I was twenty-three at the time. I was there for almost three years and I have gained experience in the Customer Goods & Services and the Automotive Industry working on big data projects. But six months ago, I started to think about my professional journey, and I just couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. Something that over the past year had been growing and became impossible to ignore. With this fear I was wasting time, I decided to leave, I wanted to go out and discovering my purpose, looking for new experiences that can enrich my professional and personal life. And that is how I ended up here in Dublin doing a Data Science Bootcamp in the Talent Garden Innovation School. This Bootcamp arrived exactly when I needed it, it was the perfect next step for my career and going abroad was something I wanted to do so I could grow as a person. Nowadays, everyone knows the importance of data and to understand it and being able to analyze big data in any type of context is extremely valuable. A Data Science Bootcamp seemed to be a perfect way to deepen my knowledge and skillset and, in particular, to learn to use better statistical tools. Also, it was a great possibility to meet new people from different backgrounds and experiences. I am really enjoying the course and the faculty, I love being in such close contact with industry experts. I mean it’s so different to study in a way that tests my capabilities by using a real-life project. In fact, the project I am working on is based on Exit Entry, a startup inside Talent Garden Dublin, a new data company that connects recent graduates and students with employers using scientifically validated soft-skill and interest assessments. These assessments are to be used by students to differentiate themselves from one another when entering the job market. My project is to analyse a dataset of students that have done soft-skill and the interest assessments inside the app. This experience that is also made up of small moments like eating pizza with the Talent Garden community, helped me remember who I am. An analytical person, that likes data but that also loves to be around other people, even if right now it is just the right time to enjoy this journey.
